Character Planning

Sometimes the solution to a problem…

16 October 2012

is so obvious that you fail to see it. I had that problem with my goblin Cleeyah. She never really clicked for me as a character even though she had one of the most elaborate character-concepts I ever created. I was never able to put my finger on what was wrong and that irked me because I just knew that roleplaying with her would become so much better if I could just resolve that little bit that was wrong. Not that I lacked for roleplay with Cleeyah. I just knew it could be much better.

Last weekend a new face in my little posse of WoW roleplaying buddies whispered me: “You know, Cleeyah should really be a troll. Everything about her screams troll.”

I think I sat there for at least a minute and was dumbfounded. Because he was absolutely right. I created Cleeyah shortly after Cataclysm came out, and somehow felt compelled to roll a goblin. Even though I really don’t like goblins that much. They are quirky and funny as NPCs, and I really enjoy the goblin characters a few of my rp buddies created. But I am not a fan.

I really should have figured that one out on my own. *sigh*

So, to make things short: Goodbye, Cleeyah Goldeneyes. Welcome, Cleeyah of the Darkspear. You have no idea how good it feels when all of a sudden everything that irked you about a character falls into place. :D

Your character’s soundtrack

14 December 2011

I cannot be the only one who has a little list of songs that just fit their characters. Maybe not for all characters, but the mains sure got their track lists. For once, it helps me get a feel for the character in a way that just writing about her cannot accomplish.

For example, for me, these five songs express what kind of person my main Fereshtar is:

So, what is your main’s playlist?

The Old Republic

The Old Republic

Guess what I just pre-ordered? Muahahahaha!

After realising that I am pretty much burned out on WoW (yes, I finally uninstalled the game) after I used up the gifted week of free game-time, and after learning that the release date for Star Wars — The Old Republic is the 22. of December, I thought: WHY NOT?! The money is already squirrelled away on my credit-card account, so that is one headache avoided.

Add to that the fact that the first time in years I will not have to work during thelast week of the year and you get a very, very excited little Cleeyah positively bouncing off the walls at the moment. Now, I just have to gently break it to my family that I will not spend a lot of time with them over X-Mas…

For this blog, this means that the probability of new roleplaying articles is currently very high. I even consider continuing the 20 Days of… series of articles — just with TOR instead of WoW.

I am playing throug KOTOR at the moment (a very cheap grab from Steam) and have a lot of fun. A little bit unexpected since I have always been a bit more of a Startrek girl than a Star Wars fan, but meh.

So which side will I be taking? Jedi? Sith? Aaahh, decisions! I am so bad at those! (Insert obligatory Come to the Dark Side — We have cookies joke here…)And what kind of character will I create? Seems as if I have my character creation work cut out for me.

PTR

27 February 2011

Hmmm, to PTR or to not PTR… isn’t always an easy question for me. On the one hand I don’t want to get spoiled for new lore development. On the other hand I have to have a peek in advance in order to gauge the possible reaction of one of my characters to such new lore developments.

It is often a gut decision, and in hindsight I often come to the conclusion that the visit to the PTR wasn’t as necessary as I have imagined it to be.

So, dear readers (at least I hope I already have readers ;) ) how do you tackle this decision?
